Who the hell is

Who the hell is Jimmy Wagstaff?

Get to know some of the brilliant minds behind our work. We’re chatting with members of the DixonBaxi studio about what makes them who they are. From the professional to the personal, nothing is off limits here. Introducing: Jimmy, our Growth Director, thinker of big thoughts and listener of good tunes.

Who are you and what do you do?

Howdy, I'm Jimmy the new Growth Director. It’s my job to make sure we have exciting new clients to work with.

What’s your story?

That’s a big question - the story of my career is a little accidental I suppose. My north star has always been driven by a love for people and connection. I’ve always had infinite curiosity for the world, how it works, and the people that inhabit it. Minds like Comte, Marx, Locke, Smith, Nietzsche gave me the structure to frame my thinking and interpretation of the world, while living in different cultures gave me the passion to explore it.

A successful career in account handling, sales, or project management will always demand the ability to understand people, and emotionally connect with them and their wider context.

What are you working on right now?

Creds. I love a good edit.

"Design isn’t accidental. Design is the physical manifestation of society's thoughts, intents, and behaviours. Design is the reflection of the aggregated human experience."

Describe your working style in 3 words.

Discerning, cooperative, and energetic.

Tell us about some of your interests. What are you into?

Hmmm… I’m into:

  • Chewing the fat with close friends and family.
  • An ice cold beer in the sun.
  • Listening to a good tune, loud.
  • Being inspired, challenged intellectually, and seeing something new (books, galleries, podcasts, lectures).
  • Sport (football - come on Chelsea, Rugby, tennis).
  • Exploring a cobbled street off the beaten track.

Do you think design can change the world? How?

Ha, that’s a silly question. It’s changing the world as we speak. Design is the world. Design isn’t accidental. Design is the physical manifestation of society's thoughts, intents, and behaviours. Design is the reflection of the aggregated human experience. I think a more interesting question to ponder is - how do social constructs influence design?

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Install a universal mute button for bad opinions.

What’s the last song you listened to?

A set by Joris Voorn - his station Spectrum Radio on SoundCloud is flames.

Why do you do what you do? What motivates you?

Deep down there’s an excitement that comes from winning.

What’s your definition of good design?

Good design is instinctual, intuitive, human. It just feels right. There are no ‘maybe’s.
